What We Do:

The Community Information Centre of Ottawa (CICO) has been delivering services to the City of Ottawa community since 1964 and has been incorporated as a charitable non-profit corporation since July 1974. For over 40 years our Information and Referral (I&R) service has been linking those in need of social and health programs with agencies that deliver these programs, be they in the non-profit or government sector. The CICO has also played an active role over the years in promoting professional standards in the I&R sector across Canada.

In 2008, we were granted the official license to operate 211 across Eastern Ontario. First we launched in Ottawa in 2008, and then we launched in Kingston Frontenac and Lennox & Addington in June 2010, Renfrew County in January 2011, Leeds and Grenville in March 2011 and Lanark County in early May 2011. It is expected that we will serve all of Eastern Ontario by December 2011 which will meet to provincial deliverable of serving all of Ontario by the end of 2011.

211 is the information and referral service that provides the people of Ontario with reliable information on community and social services. When you dial the 211 hotline, you are connected with a Certified Information and Referral Specialist who has been trained to assess your needs, answer your questions accurately, and advise you about the services and programs that are best for you and your loved ones.

What is is your connection to information about community and social services in the province of Ontario. It is your first stop for information about child care, language classes, job searches,housing, emergency shelters, services for persons with disabilities, home support, legal assistance, financial assistance, and much more.

Most of the services listed on are provided by non-profit, community-based or government organizations that provide a direct service to the public. However, you will find some private or commercial organizations that do not duplicate the work of non-profit, community and government organizations. Inclusion on is free. provides accurate and up-to-date information about services in a consistent format. Information on is updated on an ongoing basis, and changes are verified with a spokesperson from each organization or program.
